Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses, and all the king's men,
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Yesterday I woke up to the worst migraine I've ever experienced. I thought the one I had a few months ago was BAD...this didn't even come close! I thought I was going to die. I crawled around the house all morning, I managed to change two diapers...and then drive over to Erika's house so she could take care of me. (I had to pull over in the middle of the road to barf...THAT'S how bad it was!) At one point, as my head was hanging over Erika's cushy toilet seat, I thought to myself...child labor? Bring it on! Migraines? Not a chance in HELL!

Under the direction of my doctor (aka my dad), I went to the E.R. for the full workup. We knew the results would come back "migraine" because it's hereditary, but just to be on the safe side, it had to be done. Besides, if I didn't get something for nausea and pain soon, I was sure to die. I waited in the E.R. for three and a half hours, but when the nurse finally came in with my drugs...it was all worth it! Her name was Ms. Virginia.

And I just want to take a moment to say "I heart you, Ms. Virginia! I really, really do!"
And to the social worker who felt my pain (a fellow migraine sufferer), thank you for getting me a blanket, turning out the lights, and keeping my hallway quiet! I heart you too!
As you can clearly tell...I was feeling MUCH better.

p.s. Erika, Dr. Dad, and my dear sweet husband, thanks for hanging in there with me. I know I make an awful patient, and that I am incredibly hard to deal with when I'm in pain, and that I get overly anxious when I feel that it's getting out of control, and well, I'm just one big baby!! Thank you for knowing what to do, how to do it, and what to say. I love you all SO VERY MUCH.

  1. Glad you are better now!!! I know that they can be devistating. I had one while I was in college, went to the Dr. and the meds they gave me I slept for 2 days straight. Today, if it happened again there would be no way I could ever lose two days.

  2. I am so glad you feel better. I suffer from them too so I know how debilitating they are. I stopped going to the dr's for them after they overdosed me on some meds once. I was talking to the doc one minute telling all the cars going by were 10 feet long and then I couldn't speak.

I am gald you have so much support when you have them, that is a huge help!

  3. Oh, my heart and head go out to you in this. I had one at work one Mother's Day (which is one of our busiest days). I was just trying to finish the last straggling deliveries on my way home (with my sister driving, thank goodness!). I ended up barfing on someone's driveway. I felt terrible in more than one way! The worst part was that I had the wrong house, so they didn't even get flowers to go with their throw-up. (Luckily for me, the people weren't actually home when I barfed in their driveway, but still...)

  4. I don't know if you've read on my blog how I've suffered so much from migraines (I've had a few that have put me in the hospital) but I so know how you feel.. and it sucked when I was all by myself with Faith and nobody to help me. I'm so glad you're feeling better. HUGS!!!

  8. I didn't even know!

I hope your feeling better and if I was there I would have taken care of you too! The smile on your face makes it all look worth it. I'm sure they gave you some good drugs.

P.S. Ms. Jae are you okay? I hope you were in Utah when the Tornado hit Iowa City (yesterday?)

  9. Ms. Jae and family are OK! They are still here in Utah visiting. Poppa J heads home tomorrow, so hopefully we'll get more information about what happened. We're all going to the zoo today. I'm not sure when Ms. Jae will see your post - but I thought I would let you know they are OK so you didn't worry.

  10. Little Miss - Aren't E.R.'s fun? The wait alone could give you a migraine!

I'm glad you are feeling better. I've never had a migraine, so I can't even imagine what it feels like. Even though I'm not a doctor, I will send you my own personal prescription.

    * 1 Coke Zero per day
    * 5 hugs and 5 kisses from those cute kids of yours
    * Minimum 2 hour nap for at least 7-10 days

    Love you!
