The Great Migraine of 2006

The great migraine episode of 2006 has passed, THANK (insert hightest power here) for the relief! I still feel as though I have the worst hang over. Sunlight hurts my eyes, I have really dry skin, and I'm a bit looped up (why? I don't know, I have not had any drugs since Sunday night!) However, I felt the urge to update everyone on the past week. While the migraine lingered for nearly a week, the urgent care doc discovered fluid in my middle ear just a couple of days ago. (For those of you who have never had an inner ear infection, be grateful. This meant that my equilibrium was off, I had blurred vision, and couldn't walk a straight line to save my life!!)

Things I have learned NOT to take for granted:
- sunlight
- sleep
- darkness
- quiet
- best friends who care for your kids when you can't even crawl to the toilet
- best friends who have cushioned toilet seats for those times you simply fall asleep with your head hanging over the great porcelain goddess
- clean bath mats ; )
- being able to stand in the shower without someone holding you up
- the E.R. and good pain relieving drugs
- urgent care docs who go the extra mile to cover every base
- dads who are there for you every step of the way, and take every painstaking phone call you send their way because they LOVE YOU and want nothing but the best for their little girl
- husbands who carry you to and from the car both times you were admitted to the E.R. and say, "I don't care if you get fired from your job; you are NOT going into work today!"
- children who whisper
- children who give their mommies loves and share their "silkies" to make her feel better
- blog friends who are so concerned they send personal emails to make my day!

  1. -friends who had NO IDEA this was STILL GOING ON and rub it in that they are eating Cafe Rio!

I'm sorry. I love you and hope you get better soon!

  2. It's Ok, the Cafe Riodegenero ; ) comment made me smile!!

  3. Wow...that sounds like you were looking up to see the depths of hell.

    Glad you're on the mend!

  4. Wow, I'm sorry this was STILL going on. I hope your on the mend now.

  5. Seriously, I just figured you were working and family time.

I'm sorry for having NO IDEA!!!

  6. So glad it's passed (or passing) and glad to have you back! :)

  7. Whew - that's just not any fun at all - here I was thinking that you were enjoying Easter and family life. Hope you are feeling better!

  8. It must be the week for migraines from hell!

I had one all weekend. THOUGHT.I.WAS.GOING.TO.DIE!!!!

However, I didn't have all the nice things that you had thanks to BFB! (Can I borrow her and her soft toilet seat next time I have a migraine?)

  9. Anonymous9:17 AM

You poor thing. Man, I am so glad I don't have migraines!

  10. I got your message - and I take a migraine preventative, and have a back up medication I take if I have a break through migraine. I would email you - but I don't have your address.. when I clicked "email" on your profile - my browser went berzerk.. what kind of booby trap do you have rigged up!! :)

  11. I'm so sorry it's lasted this long! I've had vertigo/labrynthitis before (inner-ear thingy) and it was NOT FUN. BSC thought it would be a good idea to take me on a roller coaster during that dizzy time of my life.

    I still haven't forgiven him.

  12. glad you're feeling better. your hubby sounds like a keeper.

  13. Uh sorry about the bath mat thing, it is now all clean and sparkily, come throw up anytime! And hey, I gave you a nice new blog look, man do I do it all or what?

  14. I am glad you are feeling better!! My longest migraine was 2 1/2 saving grace was also family and friends..they are such blessings!!!
I agree..labor, anyday...migraines, from the pit of hell.

  15. p.s. Hooray for March of Dimes!!! I am walking in my town with a big group too!!!

  16. Wow...that sounds horrible! Sorry you were crawling to the toilet, that is BAD! Sounds like you have the right people around you.

  17. It's true, migraines are suck.

  18. I am so sorry! I hope you get back to 100% ASAP! I too have been the the hospital for them so I do know what you are going through. No one can understand that pain unless they have had one.

  19. Have you noticed that migranes come with children? That you don't really have migranes UNTIL you give birth?

They need to tell you that in family planning class.

    Glad you're feeling better!

  20. Geez-o-peets! That is terrible, and as a fellow migraine sufferer, it scares the crap out of me.
Hope you get back to 100% soon.

  21. Oh god - I am sorry! I get migraines and they suck! You just want to lay naked in the dark.

Get yourself a bed buddy - they work wonders!!! They are filled with rice so when you nuke them, they put off a moist heat, plus they are a little heavy and the weight over your eyes actually helps relieve some of the pressure from the headache.

Just an FYI from someone who knows how you felt!

  22. okay... if the next time i come to your site i see The Great Migraine of 2006... my head will explode. Then you'll really know what a migraine is.

  23. Ugh...I woke with a migraine today but yours definitely sounds worse.

  24. You know, if you do want to send me your email - I moderate my comments and I could just not post the comment!

  25. her email is, I'm not sure why the email me link isn't working for you, it works in IE and firefox for me, but anyway there you go

  26. Oy. Girlie!! Sounds rotten. I hope it's getting better now.

Oh come on-- the least you can do is say HELLO!! You didn't come all this way to turn around and walk away, did you? DID YOU??
