What Word Starts With...?

My daughter and I were playing the what word starts with the letter (blank) game, and I'm impressed with how much she knows. We were having fun, just lying on the futon picking a letter, then taking turns naming words that began with that letter. (Have I mentioned my lack of sleep over the past week? Just let me mention that now.) Ok, moving on...

We were on the letter "Q" and we already mentioned queen, quack, quilt, and quick when I just blurted out "queer." She immediately sat up and said, "mommy, what's queer?" And in my attempt to give her the PC definition (not THAT one), I said, "it means happy or gay." I used it in a sentence, she absorbed the new information, and we moved on.

*yes, I understand what I actually said an hour later when I was telling my husband how proud I was of teaching her what queer means without laughing. Umm...I just got queer and gay a little mixed up, but I knew that gay also meant happy, and well now I'm just shoving my foot in my mouth all over again (but laughing hysterically about it) Moving on...

I also noticed during our little game that I kept thinking of all the naughty words. It just came to my mind without a second thought. "mommy, what's the letter D start with?" (I know, she gets her questions turned around, but we all know what she meant so just shut up and think she's as cute as I do, ok?) Anyway, I'm like, um...dick, dumb, dingleberry, dork, dildo (at which point I skip my turn and let her continue, all the while she has NO IDEA why I'm laughing!) Then she went to "F", and I totally pled the fifth!

Have I mentioned my lack of sleep? Well, I haven't had much sleep this past week.

  1. Sleep deprivation=mental capacity of a seventh grader. It's like a fountain of youth for your brain! Enjoy it while it lasts!

  7. I would think the same things too! Sometimes I feel like a middle-schooler trapped in an adult body. Why is my mind the home for such thoughts?

  10. I would totally do the same thing - all initials call to mind adult words. And I cuss in initials, so I'm sure Faith will think the alphabet means something awful!!
